Accounting Specialist I

Suburban Enterprises, Inc. is currently seeking an energetic Accounting Specialist to join our team. This position will support our Accounting responsibilities. This role has the opportunity to partner with different divisions within the company and provide exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. The Accounting Specialist will need to have fantastic customer service skills, excellent computer skills, and a cheerful personality. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and have the ability and self-motivation to create and maintain accuracy. The Accounting Specialist position has opportunities for growth and advancement.



  • Accounts Payable
    • Processes vendor invoices daily
    • Reconciles vendor statements
    • Responsible for maintaining current Certificates of Insurance and W9’s
    • Sets up new vendors
    • Responds to team members and vendor inquiries as appropriate
    • Records all company credit card transactions
    • Processes employee expense reports for payment
  • Cash Receipts and Petty Cash
    • Records payments received through lockbox
    • Enters wire transfers, credit card payments, and paper checks
    • Processes credit card payments online
    • Disburses petty cash and records all petty cash transactions
  • General Accounting
    • Processes monthly journal entries as directed by the Accounting Manager
    • Pays invoices by verifying transaction information; scheduling and preparing disbursements; obtaining authorization of payment
    • Verifies accounts by reconciling statements and transactions
    • Resolves account discrepancies by investigating documentation, issuing stop payments, or adjustments
    • Reviews and processes job cost information as submitted by Project Managers and resolves errors with Project Managers involved
    • Assists with special projects, as necessary


  • Keeps Accounting Manager informed on all significant matters affecting financial operations, accounting, payroll, and data processing activities
  • Maintains financial security by following internal accounting controls
  • Maintains financial historical records by filing accounting document

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as tax, discounts, and interest
  • Ability to multi-task, establish priorities
  • Strong software skills, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Tactful in their dealings with people using good customer service and interpersonal skills, communicating effectively with clients and managers
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships


  • Associate’s degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of two years in an Accounting role
  • Proficient computer skills


  • Payroll experience
