Control Technician I

SUMMARY:

Suburban Electric is currently seeking a Control Technician to join our team. The position is responsible for the installation, calibration and maintenance of automated industrial machinery. The Control Technician keeps things running smoothly as they check on and maintain thermostats, meters, valves and more. However, the job requires far more than a pair of eyes and hands; successful Control Technicians are able to respond quickly to any problems that might arise.

The ideal candidate must be able to work from blueprints, schematic drawings and other specifications. This candidate must have ability to perform preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, able to troubleshoot and be knowledgeable regarding machine controls, PLC’s (A/B) and relay logic, demonstrate thoroughness and attention to detail with a strong sense of urgency when completing the assigned job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Responsible for performing field service, field calibration, systems repairs, and other necessary services to support the life cycle of the control systems.
  • Install, program, troubleshoot, service, and support for jobs including:
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
    • Human Machine Interface (HMI’s)
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Identify, specify and order parts for new installation or replacement.
  • Perform system modifications and construction based on company standards, NFPA 79, UL508A, and NEC codes.
  • Read, and interpret schematics at an intermediate level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge and efficiency in RS Logix 5000 and Factory Talk view ME (RS View Studio).
  • Knowledgeable and efficient in VFD selection, setup, and installation.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical proficiency and troubleshooting skills.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency and troubleshooting skills.
  • Detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills.
  • Travel is approximately 5 – 10% overnight travel throughout the year.
  • Typical work hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday; However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.
  • Ability to work overtime as occasions may dictate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Automated Manufacturing, or equivalent degree/experience.
  • This position may require employees to drive a company vehicle.  If so, employees must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record that allows the Company to insure such individuals under the Company’s insurance policies.  Employees must also carry auto liability insurance.  Employees will be subject to the Company’s policy concerning company vehicles.

Associates or better in Electrical Engineering.
