Controls Engineer

KEY DELIVERABLES

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE:

  • Create estimates and proposals for customer projects.
  • Create bill of materials (BOM) for projects.
  • Create electrical schematics and drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot a variety of automation controls systems that include AC & DC drives, PLCs, and HMIs.
  • Create engineering solutions for our customers.
  • Support both customers and department technicians with technical issues.
  • Manage and lead multiple projects.

 

TALENT DEVELOPMENT:

  • Mentor and support all levels of Control Technicians.
  • Mentor and support entry level Control Engineers.

 

PROFITABILITY:

  • Meet or exceed project material and labor estimates.
  • Recommend and quote additional work to customers to drive department sales goals.
  • Take an active role in continuously learning and improving one’s own skills to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry.

 

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION:

  • Design systems to meet or exceed customer project requirements and expectations.
  • Meet or exceed customer deadlines.
  • Create customer clients by maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Cross selling of other services that Suburban Enterprises offers.

 

SAFETY:

  • Adhere to company safety policies to maintain departmental zero loss time recordables.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant field including electrical engineering and/or electrical engineering technology or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in electrical or control system design performing the following:
    • Creating electrical control schematics using AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical.
    • Programming Rockwell SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix PLCs.
    • Programming Rockwell PanelView HMIs.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills using Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred

  • Experience estimating projects.
  • Experience with electrical design based upon NFPA 79, NEC, and UL508A.
  • Experience with and understanding of IT, OT, IoT concepts.
  • Food and beverage industry experience.
  • Paper industry experience.
  • Robotic experience.
  • Experience programming SCADA systems such as Ignition, FactoryTalk SE, or Wonderware.
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience programming Siemens PLCs and HMIs.

 

HOURS AND TRAVEL:

  • Travel is approximately 5 – 10% overnight travel throughout the year.
  • Typical work hours are 8 hours between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.  However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.
